Ha mort dmoz?

Segons el dmoz.org:

L’Open Directory Project és el directori editat per humans més gran i complet del web. Està construït i mantingut per una vasta comunitat global d’editors voluntaris.

Per a aquells que no estiguessin familiaritzats amb dmoz, solia ser un projecte animat: la wiki dels motors de cerca on la gent podia classificar els llocs i anunciar la seva arribada a la xarxa. De les darreres, però, he enviat diversos dels meus llocs en diverses ocasions fent servir els seus submissió procés. Mesos després, els meus llocs encara no es publiquen a cap lloc de la base de dades de dmoz.

Un parell de preguntes:

  1. Algú utilitza realment aquestes dades?
  2. Algú encara edita aquestes dades?
  3. Té alguna incidència aquestes dades? google, yahoo, O viu cerques?

Suposo que simplement no val la pena treballar amb o amb dmoz. La seva opinió?

    I believe it was dead sometime back.

    I noticed that Alexa has started using DMOZ for petching the title and description.

    Google too uses DMOZ for the same and gives that higher preference than the normal description.

    DMOZ however, does need to speed up a lot.

    DMOZ has always been slow at adding new listings, and always will be. It is managed by unpaid volunteers, who can’t be expected to constantly monitor their categories for new links.

    DMOZ activity has drastically decreased. It is still great to have a listing in this directory, but its just too unpredictable. Instead of pulling your hair out over this free resource (which could go down again without warning) just clench your teeth and pay Yahoo! 299 for their directory listing. Traffic & rank boost are better than DMOZ.

    DMOZ was a great idea in 1996! Now new sites are appearing so fast, that DMOZ can’t keep up. Additionally site submission and editor access were down and inaccessible for about 6 months!

    Its a great snapshot of what were important and relevant sites years ago, but it has become a dinosaur in terms of usability. I doubt google, Yahoo or MSN, are stupid enough to still consider a listing in the dmoz as a highly important attribute to the quality of a site.

    Its time to move on to more advanced projects on the web.

    When you have 100% relevancy and your site is not listed in six years. What does that mean? Your competitor is the editor! Shame on DMOZ! All got listed are not major players in the category, but companies have not major threat to the company of the editor. That’s what I’ve observed in the category of my interest.

    DMOZ is dead or a zombie now.

    Not only is DMOZ dead but it's forum now has an 'Answer Machine' style response to any questions pertaining to getting a site listed, problems or any other questions which seems to strike a nerve with them.

    "You might have misunderstood our objectives and how we operate here. ODP is a volunteer organisation building a directory as a hobby. Editors edit where they wish, when they wish and as much as they wish within the constraints of their permissions. We have no schedules or systems to force people to do work that they don't volunteer to do. ODP is not primarily a free listing service for website owners and it does not attempt to process their listing suggestions within the time scales desired by them.

    Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one."

    Hola Douglas,
    even your blogpost is quite old, it is very contemporary. We have been trying to enlist our webshop http://www.meincupcake.de now for 5 years(!!!)…..without success. In the beginning we tried it twice a year, this year finally we tried it 8 times. To see if there is anyone at all working at DMOZ we sent them a report (you can send them a “Corruption/Abuse report” via their websites. By the ticket number that I received afterwards I could find out, that they haven’t read the report the last weeks. Hm, quite poor for a site, that was very big once!
    On another blog I could find a message by a DMOZ editor who said they need sometimes over a year to publish an entry, so everybody should bother. He also mentioned, that several tries will be ignored and be handled negativels.
    To be honest: What needs so long to check? And if we should not bother, why do webmaster should waste their time at all? I think they buried this great website by themselves with their arrogance. Hope that helps somebody.
